Artist Statement 

I have always been infatuated with the human face.  I often think that I will someday run out of fascinating people to sculpt, but it hasn’t happened yet.  We are all so diverse and intriguing, and we cannot resist the attraction of our own species, whether beautiful or grotesque.  We strive to be unique and we strive to fit in…we are complicated. 

The human form is beautiful, but the face reflects the soul.  The face always tells who is on the inside.  Clay is the ideal medium for recreating a person- no paint is required, adornments can be added, but the model’s face is always clean and undisguised.  I work to create each piece as I see my model- strong, timid, lost, or trying to be someone else. The essence of the person is always there…We cannot hide who we are.
